I dun did it a hunnert times

You’d a thunk some magic bell woulda started ringing in my head moving me forward a step in stand up.  But nah, none of that, no light going off, no aha moment, basically, not one god damn thing different.  But the night was a good one.  Grandma’s last night.  Met a stand up, Jamie Gruber, who introduced himself to me and Agustin Reyes while we were chatting, catching up.  Jamie is only 4 performances in and asked us some questions about the craft.  LOL, I have to say anytime someone asks me questions about stand up, I’m very cautious to give advice.  I mean who the hell am I, and all I can think about while I blab away is those times I’ve read all those old school guys saying things like, “the worst thing for young stand ups is taking advice from those who have no business giving it…”  LOL.  But hey, I just enjoy sharing my experiences, I really try not to give advice or say this is how it is and whatever I do offer I offer it with a warning, beware the source of these words, I’m just barely cutting my teeth too!  But hey, it makes it more comfortable for everyone to be open and honest about the grind and I do remember just trying to fit in, hell still doing that every night out.

So last night was my 100th time doing stand up.  Glad to make the milestone, but disappointed about my progress.  I don’t know, maybe not so much disappointed in the progress. I have learned much more about what it takes to move up in ability at stand up.  I do wish it was easier, wish I could snap my fingers and magically become a stand up powerhouse,  but hell, guess if it was easy, everyone would be doing this shit huh?  Sometimes seems like everyone is doing it, so many stand ups out there all banging away trying to make them laughs come.

Anyway, the set went well, if my ears weren’t deceiving me.  I don’t wanna be that guy who tells everyone I’m tearing things up when in fact the only thing getting tore up is my audiences patience while they await the next comic.  The recording sounded good, although, when I listen to my recordings, the laughs never sound as good as when I’m on stage.  Not sure if thats the recording of my phone  being in my pocket, or if thats just weak stand-up ears.
